Abstract

Light curves for this poorly known cataclysmic variable are presented.

Introduction

HQ Mon type is not well known. It is misclassified as a RV: (pulsating variable) in the GCVS. According to Wahlgren et al (1985), its spectrum is the one of a B star with an interacting companion.

In the Catalogue of cataclysmic binaries of Ritter + (2003) (VizieR V/113A), HQ Mon is listed as a NL?+UX? (Nova Like of the UX UMa type) with an orbital period of 0.316 d. The reference for the period is Patterson (2003) with a measurement at 7.59+/-0.08 h which is not definitively proven.

Observations

The light curves are obtained with a 203 mm SCT and a SBIG ST7E camera with a Clear filter. The exposures are 1-mn long. 1068 measurements over 4 observing sessions were obtained.
The COMP star is GSC 163-00323 with an assumed unfiltered magnitude of 11.700. The check star is GSC 163-00779 with an observed magnitude of 12.413 and a standard deviation of 0.017.

Red: the light curve of AH Mon. The error bars are +/- 1-sigma the statistical uncertainty. Green: the same for the check star, shifted by +0.3 magnitude.
